Honda Brio Vs Toyota Etios Liva

By Gagan Modi

Honda has entered the hatchback segment with its luxury hatchback ‘Brio’. Toyota, on the other hand, is trying to win the pricing war by launching its Toyota Etios Liva. Brio has stunning looks and Etios Liva is more spacious than Brio. Consumers are confused about selecting the apt car among the two.

Honda Brio is sculpted with passion. Honda has experimented with styling by providing a fully transparent rear. Its aerodynamic design combined with chrome strip gives it a sporty look. Brio looks cute yet aggressive. It is compact. Honda Brio is 3610 mm long, 1680 mm wide and 1500 mm tall. In fact, it is smaller than Maruti swift in size, yet it provides extreme comfort to its passengers. Toyota Etios Liva is shaped like a sedan. It is massive as compared to Honda Brio. Toyota Etios Liva is 3775 mm long, 1695 mm wide and 1510 mm tall. Etios Liva has a larger wheelbase of 2460 mm as compared to Honda Brio’s wheel base of 2345 mm. Liva, however, fails to match up to Brio in terms of looks.

In terms of interiors, Brio is simply stunning. Engineers at Honda have put their heart and soul in designing this compact hatchback. Two toned dashboard along with circular AC vents provides an up market look to Brio. Its beige upholstery adds to the plush feel. Brio is packed with 2 DIN audio systems with USB port facility. It does not support CDs. Its electrically adjustable rear view mirrors are simply magnificent. Power Windows, steering mounted audio controls, Central Locking, manual air conditioning and LCD for Odometer and trip meter are few other features of Honda Brio. Brio also includes safety features like ABS, air bags and EBD. The rear seats can be folded up to 100%.

Liva has central AC vent which adds to comfort levels of rear passengers. It also features 2 DIN music systems with USB port/CD/DVD support. Steering mounted audio controls, EBD, Airbags and ABS are few other features of Toyota Etios Liva.

Brio’s 1.2 Liter 4 Cylinder I-VTEC Engine generates 86.8 BHP with a torque of 109 nm, which is by far the best in the hatchback segments. Honda Brio offers stunning fuel efficiency at 18.4 km per liter. Toyota Etios, on the other hand, is powered by 1.2 Lire 4 Cylinder 16 Valve DOHC MPFI Petrol engine. It generates 79 BHP with a torque of 104 nm. Fuel efficiency offered by Etios Liva is 18.31 km per liter. Both the cars fall in the range of four to six lakhs price tag in India.

Speaking about overall comfort, Brio offers a terrific driving experience along with stunning looks and affordable price. Toyota Etios Liva, on the other hand, sticks to conventional design and features. Liva is priced slightly higher as compared to Honda Brio. Brio comes across as a fuel efficient, comfortable car which is extremely affordable.
