Buick Automobiles Throughout The Years

The history of a world renowned car, Buick, can be traced back to as far as the 19th day of May year 1903. It was during the said year that the Buick Motor Company was unveiled by a Scottish-born Mr. David Dunbar Buick, which made the company the second oldest automobile manufacturer of America to date. Also in the same year that the fledgling the headquarters of the company in Detroit was founded and it started to struggle. After some time, a man named James H. Whiting took over the business and moved the company headquarters to his native place Flint, Michigan and then later on he hired the natural-promoting William C. Durant in 1904 as manager of the company.

In the year of 1904, the owner James H. Whiting, took it on his behalf to start on the construction of new prototype vehicle which is based on the two older prototype vehicles originally designed by a man named Walter Lorenzo Marr in between the years 1899 to 1902, with a mindset to have newest version of vehicle to offer to the public. It was during this time that the first Buick car that was made for sale became available in the market. The model was no other than the popular Buick car Model B.

Sad to say, out of the thirty-seven units of Model B cars that were made, none was able to survive aside from the two different replicas created with surviving 1904 engines the 1904 endurance car (the original, endurance-tested car that inspired Whiting s Model B) and a version of a California enthusiast, built for the 100th anniversary of the division.

The Buick s Model F followed the creation of Model B in 1909. The said car model brought early success to Buick because of its valve-in-the-head engine and it was eventually patented by a person named Eugene Richard. It has been said that Buick is partly responsible for the creation of General Motors, owing to Walter Lorenzo Marr and Eugene Richards, whose overall designs and creation eventually lands to them, while most of the 1904 s basic designed has been engineered and made well based on the quality standards of today.

It must be remembered that at that time the market leader was Ford. Mr. Ford motto with the Ford Model T was that you could have the auto in any color as long as it was black . It was General Motors which developed style as a major sales vehicle of auto sales. New models and model changes introduced excitement in auto buyer s minds whom by now had a car or truck for transportation. Automobiles were by then relatively reliable. People needed a reason to trade in or upgrade.

It was General Motors and Buick among the innovative divisions who help to pioneer the brand image and marketing. Vehicles were stylized . They had model changes. They were branded to a degree to image. People started with a mass market Chevrolet. As they progressed and prospered in life they upgraded and moved up through the G.M. lineup. From the Chevrolet up via Pontiac, perhaps Oldsmobile up to Buick and the creator willing eventually to the highest mark in the General Motors lineup Cadillac. G.M. was the pioneer and driver of this automotive marketing branding and system approach.

The savvy promotional methods of William C. Durant eventually took Buick toward becoming the largest-car maker of America, part of it due to application of new corporate ambitions and naming it General motors. It was his original desire to appeal to middle class consumers who really cannot afford to buy luxurious Cadillac, yet still wishes to have a classy mode of transportation above daily vehicle— an aim that helped made Buick s later years possible and a success.
